The Object was originally thought to be a stone so scholars identify the guy as Samson (Old Testament prisoner who was forced to turn millstone).
But new study shows that it’s a string instrument upside down so now the painting is believed to be Giorgione’s Three Large Heads of Singers mentioned by Gabriele Vendramin in 1567-69.
